Classic Persian Lentil Soup (Soup-e Adasi)

Instructions
Rinse the lentils under cold running water until the water runs clear. Transfer them to a large pot and add enough water to cover the lentils by a few centimeters.
Place the pot over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil. Skim off any foam that forms on the surface to keep the soup clear.
Add the fried onion, grated garlic, bay leaf, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the soup uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the lentils are fully tender and the flavors are well blended.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Remove the bay leaf before serving hot.
