Classic Vimpy-Style Steak Burger
"A masterclass in nostalgia, this steak-style burger delivers a perfectly seasoned, juicy patty that honors the golden age of the casual diner."
Instructions
Place the grated onions in a bowl with the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and minced garlic. Knead the mixture thoroughly for several minutes until well combined and slightly sticky; this helps the patties hold together.
Heat a heavy skillet or pan over high heat until very hot. Lightly oil the surface only if necessary.
Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions. With lightly wet hands, shape each portion into a flat, round patty of even thickness.
Place the patties into the hot pan. Cook without moving until a deep brown crust forms on the first side, then flip and cook the second side until cooked to your preferred doneness.
During the final minute of cooking, optionally add a small piece of butter or a little ketchup on top of each patty for extra richness and classic flavor.
Warm the burger buns briefly in the oven or on a dry pan. Slice them open and place one cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun.
Layer with lettuce, tomato slices, cheese, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Close with the top bun and serve immediately while hot.
