Baisakhi (Vaisakhi) arrives on 13 April as the Punjabi solar New Year, carrying a dual identity that is honored, not collapsed: for Sikhs worldwide it marks the 1699 founding of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh at Anandpur Sahib, while for Punjabi Hindu farming households it celebrates the first cutting of the rabi wheat harvest. Gurdwaras from Amritsar's Akal Takht to Southall, Brampton, and Surrey ring with Akhand Path and Nagar Kirtan, and Langar is served on a vast scale — free community meals where everyone sits together regardless of faith or status. Kadha prasad (Karah Prasad), the warm semolina-ghee-sugar offering, is distributed as blessing.
